Local YMCA Kids Help Families Displaced by Hurricane Harvey With Lego Donation

The childcare sites at Willow, Sumac, Yerba Buena and White Oak elementary schools have plenty of Legos to give away.

Westlake Village, Calif.—Thousands of children are without homes and belongings because of Hurricane Harvey. The staff at the Triunfo YMCA after school childcare program wanted to help.

The childcare sites at Willow, Sumac, Yerba Buena and White Oak elementary schools have plenty of Legos so the staff decided to wash the Legos and have the Y kids place them in baggies. The bagged Legos along with personal notes were dropped off at Berkshire Hathaway in Westlake Village where they will be trucked to shelters and handed out to kids to play with.

“We do community service activities every month,” says Chrissy Withers, Triunfo Y associate executive director. “This was an opportunity for kids to help other kids who have lost everything.”
