Meet An “Amazing” Who Gives New Meaning To Charitable Giving

Donald Schaefer, 73, was honored by the American Red Cross for his 200th blood donation.

Donald Schaefer, at 73, was honored by the American Red Cross for his 200th blood donation. Donald has been giving blood since he served in the US Army, then throughout his career as a teacher and as assistant director of placement of Eastern Illinois University’s education department, from which he retired some 10 years ago.

A proud father of five children and grandfather to 15, Donald believes that donating blood is a prime way to serve others, and is something almost everyone can do. His family concurs.
