Roberta George, at 80, is winning prize after prize with her first published novel, “The Day’s Heat” (Impress Books, UK). So far, Roberta has won an English novel-writing competition (one of the judges being J.K. Rowling), Georgia Author of the Year for literary fiction, and made Finalist in the prestigious Townsend Prize. Not bad for a first work, wouldn’t you say?

Granted, Roberta has been writing fiction since she raised her seven children (plus caring for two of her sister’s children for a number of years), but this is the first time she’s been published. And it wasn’t easy. No US publisher was interested in her manuscript, so she submitted it to British publishers, and with that – success/ Roberta is a living example of her mantra: “Never give up, you’ve got to keep on trying.”
