SCE Conducting Aerial Inspections Of Agoura Hills

The electric company said it will fly helicopters and/or drones over certain Agoura neighborhoods to assess wildfire risk.

AGOURA HILLS, CA — Southern California Edison announced that it is conducting aerial inspections of Agoura Hills neighborhoods using drones and/or helicopters to inspect equipment in hard-to-reach areas over the next few weeks.

SCE said that it is conducting the operations in order to assess “our own electrical assets, structures, and right of ways” as part of a broader campaign to prevent and mitigate wildfires. The aerial inspections, which include the use of high-tech cameras, infrared scanners, and software that geotags assets, help detect invisible flaws and obtains information that cannot be obtained from ground inspections. Information obtained is sent to a large database where the information is categorized by area and geospatial data.

“With increased aerial inspections, we are making absolutely sure that every effort is made to identify possible ignition spots in high fire risk areas,” Dave Guerrero, principal manager of SCE Air Ops, said in a statement. See here for more information on the inspections.
