Suspect Arrested In Connection With Thousand Oaks Fire

A man was detained Wednesday morning in connection with a small brush fire that burned near the 101.

THOUSAND OAKS, CA — A man was detained Wednesday morning in connection with a small brush fire that broke out in Thousand Oaks near the 101 Freeway.

The fire broke at 3:18 a.m. Wednesday near the Rancho Road onramp, and burned about one acre before being extinguished, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. No structures were threatened.

A male suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of arson, but no further information has been provided about his identity.

The fire came during a brutal heatwave that’s resulting in power outages around the Conejo Valley. Highs are expected to reach 97 degrees in Thousand Oaks Wednesday, with 20 mph gusts. Agoura Hills is expected to reach 101. An excessive heat watch is in place until Friday.
