Top Chef Offers Mother's Day Cooking Lesson In Agoura Hills

This Mother's Day, give mom the gift of chicken biryani rice from a recipe by award-winning author and chef Farhana Sahibzada.

AGOURA HILLS, CA — Mom is probably expecting roses, chocolates, or a phone call for Mother’s Day. Those are and always will be great gifts, but if you’re looking to spice up Mother’s Day 2021, grab some raisins, nuts, and rice.

On Saturday, the Agoura Hills Recreation and Event Center is hosting a virtual class on cooking chicken biryani, a Persian and Indian dish popular around the world. The modern biryani developed in the royal kitchens of the Mughal Empire, according to some historians, and this is a dish fit for a queen: masala, turmeric, saffron, and juicy chicken that will show your mom just how much you appreciate her.

The class is taught by Farhana Sahibzada, a Woodland Hills chef, author, and teacher. Originally from Lahore, Pakistan, Sahibzada has emerged as a noted authority on Indian and Pakistani cuisine. She’s the author of the Beverly Hills Book Award-winning cookbook “Flavorful Shortcuts to Indian/Pakistani Cooking”, and her cooking classes have been named a ‘Top Event’ by L.A. Weekly. She has taught courses all over Southern California, including the Westlake Culinary Institute, Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, the New School of Cooking in Culver City, and at Gelson’s, Williams-Sonoma, Whole Foods, and more.
