AFD Rescues Kite Surfer Off Crown Beach

Alameda Fire Department used a rescue boat to save a distressed kite surfer off shore at Crown Beach.

Alameda Fire Department used a rescue boat to save a kite surfer off Crown Beach this evening.

At 7:22 p.m., AFD received a call that a kite surfer was in distress and was about half a mile off shore and was unable to bring himself in, according to AFD Capt. Jim Colburn.

Crews were able to rescue him and his kit and surfboard using the boat. He was uninjured, Colburn said.
