Alameda High Student Arrested After Bringing Gun to School

An Alameda High School student was released after being arrested for bringing a firearm and other contraband items to school Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lt. Ted Horlbeck of the Alameda Police Department, a 17-year-old student was put into custody after being in possession of a starter pistol, knife, bottle of alcohol and some narcotics.

The Alamedan reported that the high school was put on lockdown after it was discovered what the student had brought to school.

Horlbeck said the student was subsequently released to parents. 

Yesterday, The Alamedan posted on its Facebook page the following:

Alameda High School was on lockdown earlier this afternoon after a student was reported to have a weapon. In a message to parents, Principal Kelly Lara said that after a search, police determined that a student had a starter pistol and "other contraband." The lockdown concluded at 2:50 p.m.; it's unclear if any charges may have been filed.
