Alameda Police Offer Free Tucker's Ice Cream to Kids Cycling Safely

Alameda Police Department patrol officers have been rewarding children with tokens for a free Tucker's ice cream cone when they demonstrate safe bicycle-riding skills.

In December of 2012, Alameda Police Department patrol officers started rewarding middle and high school aged children with a token entitling them to a free Tucker’s ice cream cone when they demonstrated safe bicycle riding skills.

Recently the following was posted on an online group called “Alameda Parents Network”:

“Well... not really tickets, but tokens. Today I forgot my cell phone at home so I had to turn back from the ferry and was riding my bike back to my house when I was pulled over on Pacific by a police officer. He told me he "needed to speak to me" - gulp. He then gave me two tokens for a FREE ICECREAM CONE from Tuckers for wearing my helmet and obeying traffic laws on my bike!!!!

Oh, and then to round if off, he told me that he hoped that I did not mind the delay (of being pulled over). And no - I did not mind one bit.

A big THANK YOU to the Alameda Police and Tucker's Ice Cream for supporting safe bike riding and the consumption of ice cream cones! Love this town.”

The Alameda Police Department would like to thank those who made this program possible. The program was organized by BikeAlameda in partnership Greer Family Mortuary, Alameda Bicycle, and Tucker’s Ice Cream. More importantly we would like to thank all of our safe bicycle riders!
