Scouts Will Pick Up Christmas Trees for Recycling on Saturday

Noon on Friday is the deadline for ordering a tree pick-up.

There's still time to have your Christmas tree picked up for recycling by Alameda's Boy Scout Troop 11.

Scouts will collect trees throughout the Island on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Online and email orders can be placed until 12 noon on Friday, Jan. 3, according to the troop's tree pick-up website.

Tickets confirming your order will be hand-delivered by Friday evening. You'll need to present your ticket when the pick-up crew arrives on Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The cost is $5 for a standard Christmas tree. An additional donation is requested for trees over 6 feet tall.

To order, visit the pick-up website at http://www.click-a-tree.com/3.html.

Trees recycled through Troop 11 are returned to Alameda as mulch for the Alameda Point Collaborative.

The troop has been collecting Alameda Christmas trees for more than 40 years. The activity began as an Eagle Scout project for Hal Zecher Jr. in 1972, according to the troop's website.

You may learn more about the project here.
