Alameda-Based Health Plan Pulled from Covered California Insurance Marketplace

An Alameda-based health plan offered through Covered California, the state's health insurance marketplace that launched last month, has been removed as an option, officials from the state program said Friday.

The Alameda Alliance for Health was one of 12 insurance options available on the exchange, but was suspended by the state Department of Managed Health Care, Covered California officials said.

The plan has been removed because it has not been approved by the state to sell health coverage in the commercial market.

Covered California notified Alameda Alliance in mid-October about the license issue and set an Oct. 31 deadline to get state approval, which was not met.

According to officials, Alameda Alliance's license as a Medi-Cal provider is not affected by the suspension.

Alameda Alliance's headquarters are at 1240 South Loop Road, Alameda.

Prospective health care enrollees have been told to find other plans. There are other options available in the Alameda County area. Residents can learn more about health plans at www.coveredca.com or by calling (888) 975-1142.
