APD Captain To Step Up As Interim Police Chief

Alameda City Manager John Russo has appointed Police Captain Paul Rolleri to be the Interim Chief of Police beginning June 1st, 2013, the day current Chief Michael C. Noonan retires.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead the women and men of the Alameda Police Department,” Rolleri said. “I will build upon the work of Chief Noonan and continue to raise our standards.”

Rolleri joined the Alameda Police Department In 1992. As an officer, he worked in patrol, primarily on the west end. He was a Field Training Officer and spent four years in the Investigations Division, with assignments in the Youth Services Section and the Violent Crimes Unit.

In 1997, he was awarded the Department Medal of Merit for his role in capturing two of three fleeing suspects in a violent bank robbery at South Shore Center.

He was promoted to sergeant in 2002, where he supervised patrol and the APD Jail and Identification Unit. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2009 and to captain in 2011.

Captain Rolleri is 49 years old and was born and raised in Alameda. He attended Otis School, St. Philip Neri Elementary, and graduated from Alameda High School in 1981.

He has two children, a 19 year old son and 17 year old daughter. Rolleri attended then Cal State University Hayward, where he earned a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 1985. He also played basketball at Cal State from 1981-1984.
