They support active and healthy citizens by promoting everyday walking and biking in and around Alameda and seek to enhance the environment by removing barriers that restrict our ability to walk and bike comfortably and safely.

“Moving forward as one team is a formalization of a partnership that has been around for many years,” says Lucy Gigli, President and co-founder of BikeAlameda.

BA and PFA have collaborated on many projects like supporting the Safe Routes to School Walk and Roll to School days. Both groups bring to the table a history of active participation in the City of Alameda's design and development process.

City officials and developers are encouraged to consult with BWA board members to ensure that any design proposals are in line with the vision that is mapped out in the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master plans.

BWA supports the City's commitment to implement on-going infrastructure improvements like a biking and walking path through the Beltline Open Space, a cycle track on Shoreline Dr. and safer passage through the Posey tube including the Estuary Crossing Shuttle.

"I am looking forward to an energized interest in our continuing efforts to make Alameda a respected walking and biking friendly community," said Pedestrian Friendly Alameda co-founder, Audrey Lord-Hausman.

Last year, Alameda was acknowledged as a bronze award winner of Most Bikeable Cities in the US by the League of American Bicyclist and for the past three years, has been named one of "The 100 Best Communities in the U.S."

Alameda has the potential to become a world-class biking and walking community and Bike Walk Alameda is dedicated to making it happen.

Bike Walk Alameda will host a series of events in 2013 that promote their mission to make biking or walking fun, safe and the most advantageous choice for you.

BWA is a non-profit membership-supported organization. Memberships start at $25 per year and include discounts at many local businesses.
