City Receives '100 Best Communities for Youth' Award

From the City of Alameda:

For the third consecutive year, Alameda is being honored as one the nation’s 100 Best Communities for Young People for the third consecutive year!

You are invited to join Supervisor Wilma Chan, Mayor Marie Gilmore,
Board of Education Trustee Trish Herrera-Spencer and members of the
Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth and their Families as we accept the
award from America’s Promise Alliance.

The celebration event will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Alameda Boys and Girls Club, 1900 Third St.

This free event will include an exhibit area for agencies and organizations
serving Alameda Youth, food, and entertainment that will include the
Lincoln Middle School Band, Skilly Circus, Cougar Cadet Corp and others.

There will be crafts, activities, story telling, games, and a chance for kids to
meet and have their pictures taken with Elmo, Sponge Bob, and (thanks to the
Alameda Police Department) McGruff the Crime-Fighting Dog.

The Bullying Prevention Initiative continues this year with workshops at
this event on:

• Cyber-Bullying and Keeping Youth Safe Online
• Dealing with Your Feelings and Preventing Bullying

Additional Parking will be available at the Academy of Alameda at 401 Pacific.
