Coast Guard Participates in Inaugural Festival in Alameda

From US Coast Guard: The inaugural Alameda Coast Guard Festival was held Tuesday afternoon following the city's annual Fourth of July parade.

The event celebrated Alameda as a Coast Guard City, one of 12 in the nation since 2006, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the service and the city.

“The Coast Guard is grateful for the support of the community of Alameda and we are honored and humbled to participate in the inaugural Alameda Coast Guard Festival,” said Vice Adm. Fred Midgette, the commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area. “Military life and duties can be stressful, so living and working in a supportive community like Alameda is vital to the wellbeing of our Coast Guard members and their families.”

The festival featured several cutters, helicopter and boat displays, musical performances, parade awards and a performance by the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard.
