Completed Transformation of Islander Motel Into New Apartments

The blighted former motel building was transformed into eco-friendly, affordable housing.

City leaders and housing advocates celebrated the completed transformation of the former Islander Motel into an apartment complex for low-income workers on Wednesday, according to The Alamedan.

The Park Alameda apartments are located at 2428 Central Ave. Construction on the blighted 40-year-old motel complex began in January 2012. The project's estimated cost is $19.53 million, The Alamedan reports.
