False Bomb Threat at Safeway, Battery at McDonald's and Burglar Naps During Heist

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from Jan. 14 to Jan. 21. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Monday, Jan. 21

  • 4:07 a.m.: A 23-year-old man was arrested for attacking a victim with a machete and causing visible injury. The incident occurred on Fairway Place.
  • 8:02 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Nason Street. A suspect smashed the window of the car to take the victim's purse inside.
  • 9:59 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2400 block of Central Avenue. A suspect broke a glass window using a rock and gained entry into business. The suspect stole computer equipment and fled with the loss.
  • 10:12 a.m.: Fraud was reported on the 1600 block of Park Street. A suspect sold a victim a counterfeit phone.
  • 1:04 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2300 block of Clement Avenue.
  • 1:32 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2300 block of Blanding Avenue. The business keeps gardening equipment in an exterior storage shed. An unknown suspect gained entry into the unlocked storage shed, selected the property, then fled with the loss.
  • 4:49 p.m.: A 14-year-old was arrested for shoplifting at the 2200 block of South Shore Center. The juvenile attempted to shoplift after being seen concealing a sweater underneath his jacket. He attempted to walk past cash registers without attempting to pay. He was detained by loss prevention agents and was subsequently released with a notice to appear to his father.

Sunday, Jan. 20

  • 8:15 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue. A 39-year-old pried open washing machines, took coins, and fled. He was later arrested.
  • 2:31 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 2400 block of Mariner Square Drive. A suspect obtained a victim's credit card information by pretending to be a cable provider. The suspect then used the credit card number to make online purchases.
  • 6:43 p.m.: Battery was reported on the 700 block of Central Avenue. A suspect created a disturbance at McDonald's and a employee asked him to leave. The suspect pushed a victim to the ground. While another victim attempted to help the pushed victim, the suspect punched that victim in the face two times and fled.
  • 8:58 p.m.: A garage burglary was reported on the 400 block of McDonnell Road. A suspect entered a victim's attached garage through an unlocked side door. The suspect attempted to kick in the door leading to the house but was unsuccessful and fled without loss.

Saturday, Jan. 19

  • 12:52 a.m.: A 27-year-old man was arrested for narcotics on the 2400 block of Central Avenue. He was contacted and was arrested for an outstanding Ramey warrant. He was also found to be in possession of ecstasy pills. He was booked at North County Jail.
  • 7:27 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1100 block of Ballena Boulevard.
  • 8 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1800 block of Pearl Street. 
  • 3:20 p.m.: Grand theft from a boat was reported on the 1100 block of Pacific Marina. A suspect stole a locked and unattended outboard boat motor and fled undetected.
  • 11:38 p.m.: Battery to a police officer was reported on the corner of Park Street and Encinal Avenue. A 26-year-old man was contacted after a 24-year-old woman was observed walking against a red light obstructing traffic. The woman showed signs of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. She had red eyes, slurred speech, the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, an unsteady gait, and was unable to care for her safety. The man also showed signs of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Both were arrested.

Friday, Jan. 18

  • 12:35 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on Buena Vista Avenue. A suspect entered the victim's room through an unlocked door while he was sleeping. While inside the victim's room, the suspect decided to sleep on the ground next to the victim. The victim woke up and confronted the suspect who fled in an unknown direction. The victim later discovered his Nook Tablet was missing.
  • 9:37 a.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 500 block of Central Avenue. A victim reported that a suspect stole her diamond engagement ring by unknown means from her locked and unattended apartment.
  • 11:49 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1600 block of Harbor Bay Park. A suspect took a laptop and wallet from the vehicle after breaking the window.
  • 3:07 p.m.: Forgery was reported on the 1500 block of Park Street. A suspect entered a business to cash a fraudulent check.
  • 3:49 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1500 block of 9th Street.
  • 3:12 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 600 block of Centre Court. A suspect used personal/financial information by unknown means to obtain credit.
  • 3:44 p.m.: An unknown suspect called in with a false bomb threat at Safeway, located at the 2200 block of South Shore Center.
  • 3:26 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1300 block of Marina Village Parkway. 
  • 3:45 p.m.: Forgery was reported on the 900 block of Marina Vilalge Parkway. A 28-year-old man was arrested after being contacted inside the Chase Bank after attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
  • 9:07 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center.

Thursday, Jan. 17

  • 9:32 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1800 block of Fremont Drive.
  • 9:47 a.m.: Grand theft shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. A 41-year-old woman was arrested for entering the store, stealing several purses and clothing items and then exiting the store without paying for the items. She was detained by loss prevention agent, and placed under citizen’s arrest. She was then transported and booked at North County Jail.
  • 9:51 a.m.: Forgery was reported on the 800 block of Marina Village Parkway. A suspect deposited forged checks at an ATM and withdrew money.
  • 10:54 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 600 block of Centre Street. A suspect obtained a victim's banking information to make purchases.
  • 12:22 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 3000 block of Jackson Street.
  • 7:49 p.m.: a 24-year-old man was arrested for possession of narcotics at the 2200 block of South Shore Center. He was contacted after a report of a male slumped over behind the wheel of a parked vehicle. He displayed the objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was unable to care for his own safety. During a search incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of suspected cocaine sales.

Wednesday, Jan. 16

  • 9:23 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 3200 block of Central Avenue. The burglar stole a car stereo, speaker and projector.
  • 10:54 a.m.: A residnetial burglary was reported on the 3100 block of Otis Drive. The suspect entered through an unlocked window and stole unknown items.
  • 9:41 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 300 block of Hollister Avenue.
  • 2:56 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 3300 block of Fenside Boulevard.

Tuesday, Jan. 15

  • 1:03 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 2500 block of Pensacola Road. The suspect gained entry by breaking the rear sliding glass door. The suspect then took property and fled the scene without victim's permission or knowledge.
  • 7:38 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1100 block of Regent Street.
  • 8:42 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2020 block of Santa Clara Avenue. The suspect entered a locked vehicle and removed gym bag, coins and parking gate remote.
  • 9:53 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2000 block of Santa Clara Avenue.
  • 10:48 a.m.: A 49-year-old man was arreste for shopliftin gon the 2300 block of Santa Clara Avenue. He was detained by Loss Prevention for stealing merchandise. He had six prior theft related convictions and was on probation for the most recent theft conviction. He was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • 3:53 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 400 block of Whitehall Road.
  • 8:56 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 2100 block of Mosley Avenue.
  • 11:34 p.m.: A 34-year-old man was arrested for possession of stolen property on the 2500 block of Eagle Avenue. He was seen riding a bicycle through a stop sign without stopping. During a probation search, he was found to be in possession of marijuana packaged for sales. The bicycle he was riding was reported stolen out of Davis PD.

Monday, Jan. 14

  • 10:31 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 3400 block of Solomon Lane. The suspect pried open the front door and stole property.
  • 3:02 p.m.: A robbery was reported on the 800 block of Atlantic Avenue. A suspect approached a victim while wearing a mask and robbed her at gunpoint.
  • 3:29 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1100 block of Rosewood Way. A victim's personal information was used to open a cell phone account.
  • 3:57 p.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue. A 43-year-old man was arrested after being stopped by store security after concealing toothbrushes on his person and then exiting the store without paying for the merchandise. Security requested a citizen's arrest.
  • 7:03 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 900 block of Santa Clara Avenue. A suspect used a credit card to order an iPad and accessories.
