Update: Gas Leak Near Target Store Caused by Construction Crew

Crew hit 4-inch gas line

A gas leak caused by a third-party construction crew was reported
near a Target store in Alameda this morning, according to PG&E and fire
officials. Alameda Fire Department officials reported the leak shortly after 10:20 a.m. in the area of Fifth Street and Mitchell Avenue.

The construction crew hit a 4-inch gas line, causing the leak, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said. PG&E crews responded and capped the leak by 11:18 a.m. No injuries were reported.

PG&E officials encourage anyone beginning a digging project to call 811 beforehand to have gas lines marked in the area.
