Letter: A Big 'Thank You' to Donors of AEF's Adopt A Classroom

On March 21, I made the Alameda Education Foundation’s final Adopt A Classroom presentation for the 2012-2013 school year.  

This school year, we made 131 presentations totalling $65,500.

Funds were used to support a 5th grade science camp, to set up a new kindergarten class, to support a Zoomobile Animal Habitat assembly and to purchase instruments to help start a brand new music class, just to mention a few.  

Teachers tell us “I think it is great to help out classrooms that are truly in need!” and  “After 37 years of teaching Middle School, in a different district, I did not once experience such an unsolicited and freely given monetary gift.”  

Adopt A Classroom is a program of the Alameda Education Foundation that enables members of the community to directly impact classroom learning by donating $500 to teachers in Alameda K-12 public education classrooms. One hundred percent of each $500 donation goes directly to the teacher.  

I would like to thank our March donors: Doug and Gail DeHaan, the Alameda Kiwanis Club, Nancy and  Rob Wonder, the Encinal Community, and a generous anonymous donor.

Adopt A Classroom presentations are made September through March of each school year. Donations received after March will be made the following school year.
