Update: Park District Calls Water Death a Suicide

The victim, a man in his 50s, was found Sunday morning.

A man found dead in the water near an Alameda beach Sunday morning died by suicide, an East Bay Regional Park District spokeswoman said today.

A park visitor found the body of the man in his 50s at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday at Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach, park district spokeswoman Carolyn Jones said.

Emergency crews responded there and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators determined this morning that the man had died by suicide.

There were no obvious signs of foul play in the case of a man found dead in the water near an Alameda beach Sunday morning, an East Bay Regional Park District spokeswoman said today.

A park visitor found the body of the man in his 50s at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday at Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach, park district spokeswoman Carolyn Jones said. His name has not been released.

Emergency crews responded there and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators are still trying to determine the man’s cause of death.
