Dog Food Recall: Nutrisca, Natural Life Pet Products: FDA

Pet owners complained of Vitamin D Toxicity in their dogs after eating the products.

Two different brands of dog food have been recalled because pet owners complained of Vitamin D Toxicity in their dogs after eating the products, the US Food and Drug Administration announced Friday. An investigation revealed a formulation error led to the elevated Vitamin D in the product.

According to the FDA, "Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction. Consumers with dogs who have consumed the product listed above and are exhibiting these symptoms, should contact their veterinarian."

Recalled Nutrisca bags have a Best By Date code of February 25, 2020 through September 13, 2020. The Best By Date code can be found on the back or bottom of each bag. The dog food was distributed nationwide.

Recalled Natural Life Pet bags have a Best By Date code of May 29, 2020 through August 10, 2020. The Best By Date code can be found on the back or bottom of each bag. The dog food was distributed to retail stores in California, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
