Police Log: Fireworks Citations, Explosive Devices Placed Inside Mailboxes and Auto Thefts

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from July 4 to 7. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Thursday, July 4

  • 3:19 a.m.: Three people were cited for fireworks on the 1700 block of Charles Street — a 21-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. They were issued citations and released at the scene.
  • 6:34 p.m.: A 47-year-old woman and 48-year-old man were arrested for possession of narcotics on the 1800 block of Everett Street. They were contacted during a consensual encounter. The woman exhibited objective signs of being under the influence of a stimulant. The man admitted to possessing narcotic paraphernalia. Upon search, he was found in possession of suspected heroin and several items which were suspected to be drug paraphernalia.
  • 10:03 p.m.: An unknown projectile came through the roof of victim's home on the 3000 block of Fernside Boulevard.
Friday, July 5
  • 2:40 a.m.: Possession of an exploding destructive device was reported on the corner of 6th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Unknown suspects placed an explosive type firework inside of a mailbox causing damage to the mailbox and its contents. Suspects then fled the area.
  • 5:58 a.m.: Vehicle burglary was reported on the 1700 block of Buena Vista Avenue. A 25-year-old man was arrested. He was found inside victim's vehicle. He had opened the glove compartment and center console and removed several items in an apparent attempt to commit theft. He displayed objective signs of alcoholic beverage intoxication and was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself.
  • 7:33 a.m.: An unknown suspect damaged a victim's mailbox with an explosive device on the 100 block of Purcell Drive.
  • 1:42 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1100 block of Marianas Lane. Suspect obtained victim's personal information and used it to obtain credit and make purchases on victim's existing accounts
  • 3:34 p.m.: Residential burglary was reported on the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue. Suspect entered victim's residence through an unlocked window, selected loss and fled.
  • 11:28 p.m.: Residential burglary was reported on the 2000 block of Whitehall Place. A 23-year-old man was arrested. Victim said suspect attempted to enter her residence through the screen door and was possibly on the roof. He contacted on top of the roof. He displayed the objective signs of alcohol intoxication and was taken into custody for attempted burglary and public intoxication
Saturday, July 6
  • 7:53 a.m.: A 39-year-old man was arrested for giving an officer false information. He gave a false name to a police officer, was found to have two warrants under his true identity, and was illegally in possession of pepper spray.
  • 8:30 a.m.: Vehicle burglary was reported on the 2800 block of Lincoln Avenue. 
  • 1:09 p.m.: Narcotics sale was reported on the 2400 block of Embarcadero. A 47-year-old man was arrested. He was contacted during a vessel inspection in the Oakland Estuary. During a consensual search, he was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine which was packaged for the purpose of sales.
  • 8:17 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 800 block of Haight Avenue. Suspect obtained victim's personal information by unknown means and attempted to open a line of credit.
Sunday, July 7
  • 9:26 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1600 block of Pacific Avenue. 
  • 11:23 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1200 block of High Street. Suspect used victim's identity to obtain credit and make an online purchase.
  • 12 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2000 block of Eagle Avenue. 
  • 6:29 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1600 block of Paru Street.
