OAKLAND, CA – Southwest Airlines announced Wednesday that it will begin offering non-stop flights to Tucson out of Oakland International Airport beginning in March.

The flights, on which seats are available for now, will begin March 11, the airlines announced. There will be one southbound flight per day departing at 7:05 p.m. and arriving in Tucson at 10:45 p.m. The flight arriving in Oakland arrives from Tucson at 1:25 p.m. after departing Arizona at noon.

Tucson joins Phoenix as the two Arizona destinations that are reachable out of Oakland on Southwest, the airline announced. Oakland is Southwest’s largest California base. The 747-mile trip between Oakland and Tucson will be aboard the airline’s full-size 737 Boeing jets. Southwest said that it previously tested the flight with Saturday-only service, which yielded favorable results, which led the airline to add a daily flight moving forward.

Southwest Airlines announced it will restore transcontinental service between Oakland and Baltimore, Orlando, and Atlanta beginning in March as well. These destinations were suspended in earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Tucson is an often requested yet unserved destination from the East Bay and the transcontinental flights to Atlanta, Baltimore, and Orlando are very welcomed service restorations,” Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Bryant L. Francis said in a statement issued by the airline.
