Teen Identified as I-880 Crash Victim
He was thrown from the highway onto a parking area below.

OAKLAND, CA — A man killed when he stepped out of his crashed car during heavy rain in Oakland early Sunday morning was identified today as a 19-year-old Hayward resident.
Santino Perez was killed after he crashed his red 2004 Hyundai Accent in a flooded area of southbound Interstate Highway 880 near downtown Oakland early Sunday morning, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
Several crashes were reported in that area that morning, California Highway Patrol officials said. After Perez's Hyundai was disabled at about 2:30 a.m., he pulled to the right shoulder and apparently got out of the car.

As he was standing on the highway, the driver of a black 2009 Range Rover lost control of the car and crashed into the Hyundai. Perez was thrown from the highway onto a parking area below.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a recent Hayward High School graduate who played baseball with Mt. Eden Little League as a child.
Investigators do not believe that the Range Rover driver had been drinking or using drugs prior to the crash.
