Two Men Killed By Trains Thursday Identified

Two men were killed by Capitol Corridor trains within a two hour period last week.

The identities of both men killed by Capitol Corridor trains in separate collisions Thursday morning in Oakland have been released by the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

At about 9:10 a.m., a train heading from Sacramento to San Jose struck and killed Phillip Brown Jr. Brown was 37 and his government ID listed a San Leandro address, according to the coroner's bureau.

The incident occurred near 98th and Railroad avenues. The train had about 30 passengers onboard, none of whom were injured, Union Pacific officials said.

At around 11 a.m. Thursday, an empty train heading to a railyard in Oakland struck and killed 35-year-old Jason Kinder of Oakland. Kinder was on the tracks near Fruitvale Avenue and East 10th Street when the train hit him.
