Unattended Candle Causes Alameda House Fire

Fire officials said a female occupant was treated at the scene for a minor injury.

ALAMEDA, CA — An unattended candle caused a residential structure fire in Alameda late Thursday afternoon that caused a minor injury to a female resident, fire officials said. The fire in the 1100 block of Morton Street, near Franklin Park, was reported at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday and arriving crews found fire coming from windows on the second floor, according to fire officials.

The people who lived at the residence were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived, fire officials said.
Crews attacked the fire and were able to confine it and fully extinguish it in about 20 minutes, according to the Alameda Fire Department.

One adult female occupant was treated at the scene for an injury that wasn't considered to be life-threatening, fire officials said. Fire damage was limited to the second floor of the building and investigators determined that the blaze was caused by an unattended candle, according to fire officials.

Twenty firefighters responded to the blaze and none of them were injured.
