Albany USD, Teachers Union Reach School Reopening Deal

Cornell, Marin, and Ocean View Elementary Schools will open for five days a week of modified instruction and Albany Middle School for four.

ALBANY, CA — The Albany Unified School District reached a tentative agreement today with the Albany Teachers Association regarding the return to in-person instruction.

“We are so thankful to ATA and to all of our staff who have worked so hard to bring our students back to school safely!” district officials said in a statement.

“This is something to celebrate, something that gives all of us hope. Although not all students are returning to campus, all of us in the AUSD community have taken a major step forward.”

Starting Monday, Cornell, Marin, and Ocean View Elementary Schools will be offer a five-days-a-week, modified full-day program.

For families that opted to return to in-person instruction, arrival and departure times are listed below:

TK/K Extended Daily Schedule:

  • AM cohort: 8:30 am-11:30 am
  • PM cohort: 12:30 pm-3:30 pm

Staggered Start and End Times for Grades 1-5:

  • Grade 1: 9:15 am - 1:30 pm
  • Grade 2: 9:00 am - 1:15 pm
  • Grade 3: 8:45 am - 1:00 pm
  • Grade 4: 8:30 am - 12:45 pm
  • Grade 5: 8:30 am - 12:45 pm

Remote instruction will also shift to these times.

March 25-26 will be Transition Days to give teachers time to prepare for the reopening, with asynchronous instruction for all TK/K-5th grade students.

Albany Middle School reopens for four-days-a-week in-person instruction on April 5, according to this AMS schedule.

Mondays through Thursdays, half of the returning students (Yellow Cohort) will attend in-person classes from 8:30am - 10:35am.

The other half (Black Cohort) will attend in-person classes from 11:35am - 1:40pm. Fridays are reserved for asynchronous work, teacher office hours, and club activities.

A new Intent-To-Return form will be sent out soon for parents to make a choice regarding in-person instruction based on this new schedule.

Friday will be a Transition Day with asynchronous instruction only.

No Changes were announced for Albany High School.

As announced previously, the in-person afternoon Academy Program will begin on April 19. Transition Days with asynchronous instruction will be April 7, 8, and 9.

The AUSD Board of Education will hold a special meeting Friday 26 regarding the Amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding just announced.

The agenda for this meeting will be posted Thursday morning on the district website.
