Change Batteries in Smoke & CO Detectors, Fire Officials Urge
Bay Area fire officials urge residents to use today's switch from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time as an occasion to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

With today, Sunday, marking the end of Daylight Savings Time, with clocks rolling back an hour, fire officials throughout the Bay Area advise residents to change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
The alarms can save lives and should be changed twice a year, as well as be tested once a month to ensure they are working properly, officials said.
If there is no smoke alarm in a home, they should be installed immediately, according to fire officials.
Many county fire protection districts, including Contra Costa County fire and Central fire of Santa Cruz County, offer free smoke and carbon monoxide inspection, testing and replacement programs. Call your local fire district for more information.
