Films By Young Women To Be Screened In Albany

Camp Reel Stories aims to empower more women to be decision makers in the film industry.

ALBANY, CA — Camp Reel Stories will screen the films created at the Camp Reel Stories Media Program for Girls. The advanced films will be presented at Albany Twin Theatre, 1115 Solano Ave in Albany, on July 21 from 10 a.m. to noon.

At Camp Reel Stories, young women discover their voice and express their point of view in a powerful and thoughtful way via film. During the program, the campers work in groups and learn to create their own film from with guidance from professionals, including Oscar nominees and winners.

After the two-week session, the aspiring female filmmakers debut their work at a film festival open to the public. At the festival, attendees will get to meet the filmmakers and ask questions during a Q&A taking place after the screening of their film.

Camp Reel Stories believes that when women and girls are better represented behind the scenes in the media, they will be better reflected on the screen. Only 17% of decision-makers in the film and television industry are women. Reel Stories empowers young women to value and nurture their own unique voice, create their own media, view current media critically and thoughtfully, and aspire to leadership in all aspects of their lives.
