Are you ready for some relief from traffic? Take a look at the video with the proposed roundabouts.

ALBANY, CA — The planning for the I-80/Gilman Interchange Project has been underway for years. It has taken a step forward with the release of a initial environmental assessment. An Open Forum Hearing about the plans will be held next Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the James Kenney Recreation Center Community Room, 1720 8th Street, Berkeley, 94710.

The proposed project will reconfigure the Gilman Street interchange, located in northwest Berkeley near its boundary with the City of Albany. The purpose of the project is to improve navigation and traffic operations on Gilman Street between West Frontage Road and 2nd Street through the I-80 interchange so that congestion is reduced, queues are shortened and merging and turn conflicts are minimized.

In addition to improving mobility through the Gilman street corridor, the project aims to close the gap in local and regional bicycle facilities through the interchange and provide access for bicycles and pedestrians traveling between the Bay Trail and North Berkeley.
