Latest Tally Of Alameda County Coronavirus Deaths: Albany Cases

As cases soar in Alameda County, deaths rise at a modest pace.

ALBANY, CA — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Alameda County has soared this month, to 14,229 total since the start of the pandemic, health officials reported Thursday. From Aug. 1 - 12, 2,300 cases were added to the county’s tally.

But while confirmed illnesses are spiking, deaths are not. During the same time frame — Aug. 1 - 12 — deaths rose modestly from 201 to 216.

Hospitalizations are declining. Currently, there are 172 patients in hospitals throughout the county suffering from COVID-19 complications, with 57 of them in intensive care. Admissions peaked on July 28, with 213 total patients, and 64 in the ICU.

Meanwhile, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association have released a report that shows a 40 percent increase in pediatric coronavirus cases nationwide in the last two weeks of July, with nearly 100,000 testing positive in that time.

Here in California, more than 57,000 children have been diagnosed with confirmed cases of coronavirus from the start of the pandemic through Aug. 12, making them 9.6 percent of cases.
Just one child has died of COVID-19 complications in California.
