Police Calls: 10 Theft Cases, 5 Accidents – in 2 Days

The Albany police logs for Oct. 7-8 include 10 theft-related cases, five vehicle accidents, a bank complaint about protesters camping in front, a man arrested for allegedly choking his brother and a complaint of being nearly blinded by searchlights.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Oct. 7

DUI arrest – At 12:52 a.m., police arrested a 41-year-old San Francisco man at Gilman and San Pablo on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

DUI arrest – At 2:07 a.m., police arrested a 32-year-old Oakland man at I-80 and Buchanan on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Bike stolen – At 8:15 a.m., police received a report of a bike stolen from an open garage area on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Vehicle stolen – At 8:47 a.m., police logged a report of a vehicle theft on Brighton. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 8:51 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident with a vehicle blocking the roadway at San Pablo and Washington. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 9:48 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident at Pierce and Johnson in which the reporting party witnessed a truck back into the front of Toyota. The driver was denying he hit a vehicle. Disposition: Log note only.

Harassment by neighbor – At 10:22 a.m., a person in the lobby reported ongoing harassment by a neighbor on Ramona. Disposition: Log note only.

Battery arrest – At 10:40 a.m., police arrested a 59-year-old Albany man in the 900 block of Key Route on suspicion of battery. The arrest followed a 10:19 a.m. report of a person being choked by his brother on Key Route. An unknown weapon was mentioned in the report.

Stolen property, probation arrest – At 12:47 p.m., police arrested a 65-year-old San Francisco man at San Pablo and Solano on suspicion of receiving stolen property and violating probation. The arrest followed a 12:27 p.m. report of "obscene exhibitions" by the suspect 10 minutes earlier on San Pablo.

iPod, auto registration taken from unlocked vehicle – At 2:17 p.m., police received a report of an iPod and vehicle registration taken from an unlocked vehicle the previous night on Marin. Disposition: Case report taken.

Petty theft arrest – At 3:37 p.m., police arrested a 44-year-old male transient at San Pablo and Solano on suspicion of petty theft with priors. The arrest followed a 3:30 p.m. report of a man at Max's Liquors, with a bike outside, concealing magazines under his clothing. He was still there when the report was made.

Non-injury accident – At 4:19 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving a gray Toyota Corolla and a gray Honda Civic at Gateview and Washington. Disposition: Log note only.

Attempted auto burglary – At 5:30 p.m., police received a report that someone unsuccessfully tried to pry open the driver's side door lock with a metal object during the night on Solano. Disposition: Log note only.

Hit and run with damage – At 7:14 p.m., police logged a report of a hit and run with damage to a parked car at Curtis and Visalia between 2:30-7 p.m. today. Disposition: Case report taken.

911 call on people blocking traffic – At 7:39 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting that several people were blocking traffic at Solano and San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Nearly blinded by searchlights at Petsmart – At 9:05 p.m., a motorist who had driven over the Buchanan overpass from I-80 reported being nearly blinded by someone using two large searchlights at Petsmart on Eastshore. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Tuesday, Oct. 8

Paint on City Hall door
– At 7:59 a.m., police received a vandalism report from a city employee of paint on the rear door of City Hall. Disposition: Case report taken.

Bank objects to campers in front – At 8:31 a.m., police received a complaint from the the customer service manager at California Bank & Trust on Solano requesting that the people out front clear out. Disposition: Log note only. (Editor's note: Activists opposed to the plan to remove Albany Bulb dwellers staged a protest camp-out on the sidewalk in front of the bank. Non-injury accident – At 9:39 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident with a vehicle blocking the roadway at San Pablo and Buchanan. Disposition: Log note only.

Clothing theft from backyard
– At 4:16 p.m., police received a report of five clothing bags intended for Goodwill taken from a resident's backyard on Curtis. The resident was contacting police only to have a record of the theft. Disposition: Log note only.

Alcohol stolen at BevMo
– At 8:11 p.m., police received a report of alcohol taken by a woman at Beverages and More. The suspect was described as black in her 30s and wearing a floral top. She got into a white flatbed rent-a-truck driven by a black male in his 30s who was wearing a baggy shirt. They were last seen going south on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary arrest at Target – At 10:56 a.m., police arrested a 37-year-old Berkeley man at Target on suspicion of auto burglary.
