Smoke in Albany Likely From California Wildfires

A Spare the Air alert was issued for the Bay Area Monday, officials with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said.

A combination of a regional weather system and smoke from the Soberanes Fire in Monterey County will bring high temperatures and smoking skies to Santa Clara County and southern Alameda County that will persist through Monday.

In combination with vehicle exhaust, the air in the region will be unhealthy, especially for seniors, young children and people with respiratory and heart conditions.

The most effective way for residents to reduce air pollution in the summer is to drive less or drive an electric vehicle, according to air quality officials.

Residents are encouraged to carpool, bike, walk or take transit each day to work. Residents are also encouraged to think about buying an electric vehicle when they are in the market for a new vehicle.
