A Hullabaloo in Grand Park

Hullabaloo singer and songwriter returns for another season of children's concerts in Aliso Viejo.

Dancing, twirling and singing children made quite the hullabaloo Tuesday morning in Town Center's Grand Park Amphitheater.

The children's concert series, sponsored by the Aliso Viejo Community Association, returns to Grand Park with Hullabaloo.

Steve Denyes, Hullabaloo singer and songwriter, has performed nearly 20 times in Aliso Viejo. He began singing his kid-friendly songs during Stroller Strides classes in the city and made it an official event three years ago.

Denyes, who used to teach kindergarten through sixth grade in the San Diego area, began writing and performing children's songs for his sister’s kids. From there the family hobby turned into a few gigs at local Stroller Strides classes and eventually became a fulltime paid job about eight years ago.

Denyes travels around Orange County performing his fun, yet educational children's songs.

"I write most of the songs from inspiration I find being around kids and family. What funny, different, fun things happen with young kids and their interactions," he said.

First Denyes focuses on making his songs fun, but always tries to throw in some educational lessons as well.

"It is like being a good uncle," Denyes said. " It's about being really fun with a few lessons thrown in there."

Hullabaloo is currently working on their next album "Rocket Shoes." This will be their 10th album.

The next children's concert in Grand Park, featuring Hullabaloo, takes place May 10 at 11 a.m.
