Aliso Viejo's Kyla Ross to Compete in 3 Gymnastics Events

The 15-year-old's Olympic events: floor exercise, balance beam and uneven bars.

Her parents enrolled her in gymnastic classes when she was three years old, after discovering her love of climbing.

Tonight, and 12 years later, Aliso Viejo resident Kyla Ross showed extraordinary skill and poise in competition in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for women's ’gymnastics. She'll be joined on the U.S. team going for the gold in London by Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney of Laguna Niguel and Aly Raisman.

Ross, an Aliso Niguel High School student, has been training nearly 30 to 35 hours per week at Gym-Max Gymnastics in Costa Mesa under coaches Howie and Jenny Liang.

Ross’ official website includes a growing list of accomplishments, including the most recent when Ross helped the U.S. team win gold (ahead of Italy and Russia) in the City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. Also in 2011, Ross was named to the Junior US National Team—for the third time, the 2011 Covergirl Classic Junior Champion and the 2009 and 2010 U.S. Junior National Champion. During the last three years she earned more than 12 international medals.

Ross’ current ranking is:

  • 5th overall, with a total of 59.400
  • 1st uneven bars
  • 5th balance beam
  • 8th floor exercise
