ALISO VIEJO, CA —Sen. Pat Bates announced this month that Rancho Santa Margarita, Dana Point, and Aliso Viejo would each receive grants from the California Department of Housing and Community Development.

Laguna Niguel's Sen. Patricia Bates reported that Rancho Santa Margarita would receive $25,000 toward that end. Aliso Viejo and Dana Point will each receive $160,000 toward the housing effort.
According to the city of Rancho Santa Margarita, "the City of Rancho Santa Margarita will utilize its allocation in a variety of ways to assist low- and moderate-income City residents."

Bates says she is not finished earning funds for the affordable housing efforts in her communities.

"I will continue to do what I can to ensure that every community receives its fair share of the resources from state housing programs," Bates said in a release. The OC Register reports that the grants will streamline housing approvals and speed up housing production.

Dana Point is using the monies to fund an environmental impact report for Doheny Village, the site of possible housing at Capistrano Beach. That development would create "mixed-use" areas allowing for over 1,000 affordable housing units.
