UPDATED: Close Call When Car Hits House, Takes Out Mailbox and Tree

Crash sounded like a "small explosion," waking neighbors. The driver was arrested for a suspected DUI.

In Tuesday's police blotter, Aliso Viejo Patch reported a traffic accident involving a white Lexus that hit a tree and the exterior of a home on Santa Clara Street.

The driver, a 55-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Resident and neighbor to the home impacted by the crash, Heather Pritchard, shared more about the accident.

"It was so lucky that no one was hurt. [The driver] did not hit any of our cars and no one was hurt. [The driver] came so close," Pritchard said. "But it was loud. It woke a lot of people up. It sounded like a crash, a small explosion ... not quite sure what it was because we were sleeping."

The driver, who according to Pritchard had a dog in the backseat of the car, hit the house after running into an exterior column. The column was knocked down, but caused no apparent structural damage. The mailbox and a small tree were also destroyed in the crash.

Pritchard said the column is what stopped the car from damaging the house more.

No initial injuries were reported. The dog was apparently uninjured as well.

"The whole thing was just surreal," she said.
