Former Angels Pitcher Tommy Hanson Dead at 29

The cause of death was catastrophic organ failure, according to reports.

Former Angels star pitcher Tommy Hanson is dead at the age of 29.

Hanson died at an Atlanta area Hospital Monday night, according to the AJC. The cause of death is reported to be catastrophic organ failure, but details are unknown as to what brought about the condition.

Hanson reportedly had been in a coma before his death, according to Channel 2 Action News’ Zach Klein, and had been in the hospital since Sunday morning.

Hanson had a major league of 49-35 record with 3.80 ERA over five major league seasons. Hanson spent four of those with the Braves before being traded to the Angels in 2013.

At 6-foot-6 Hanson was known as “Big Red.”
