A Letter From Mayor Phil Tsunoda
The mayor penned a message to the residents of Aliso Viejo.

The following is a message from Aliso Viejo Mayor Phil Tsunoda:
Now that all of the dust has settled from the flurry of activity surrounding Election Day, November 4, I want to reflect on the significance of this ritual taking place every two years.
I hope you all took advantage of the freedom to engage in dialogue and conversations in exercising our civic duty this election season by participating in the process that eventually governs us. At times, I know it can be a bit overwhelming with endless commercials and political mailers. But hopefully, those attempts spark an interest in the democratic process.

Regardless of your position on the issues or candidates, our sacred right to vote and involve ourselves is the cornerstone of our democracy. Every two years, we get the opportunity to choose how we are governed, and it is a decision that should not be taken lightly. As a citizenry, we have the ability to choose our leaders, and in watching the national and international news, we know this is not a privilege universally enjoyed.
I am very proud of the participation from Aliso Viejo residents in this past election season. Although we are only 13 years old and the youngest city in Orange County, there seemed to be much public and community interest on the November 4 ballot.

Again, thank you to those who participated in our democratic system of government. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, “democracy is the worst form of government except all those others.”
If you are already missing the excitement from election season, don’t fret. You will get the wonderful opportunity to participate in the process all over again in only two short years!
