Mission Hospital Welcomes Senior Executive - John D. Miller
Utilizing his 20 years of experience in philanthropy, John D. Miller will lead the hospital's fundraising efforts

Utilizing his 20 years of experience in philanthropy, John D. Miller will lead the hospital’s fundraising efforts to meet the health care needs of the community, including the development of the new Judi and Bill Leonard Institute for Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Wellness at Mission Hospital.
The newest member of Mission Hospital’s executive leadership team, John D. Miller brings extensive leadership experience in all aspects of fundraising, with a special focus on and passion for health care.
“John is joining the Mission family at an incredibly exciting and impactful time,” shares Chief Executive Tarek Salaway, MHA, MPH, MA. “Philanthropic support of our community is more important than ever as we continue to advance our programs and services, with reputational distinction and meeting the evolving and diverse health care needs of south Orange County with clinical excellence, dignity and compassion.”

One of Mission Hospital’s top philanthropic priorities is the development of the new Judi and Bill Leonard Institute for Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Wellness. Offering world-class care, the Leonard Cancer Institute will establish a place of new possibilities, hope and healing in our community, not previously available.
Philanthropic initiatives have also been identified to further develop the hospital’s six other clinical institutes: Heart and Vascular, Mental Health and Wellness, Neuroscience, Orthopedics, Trauma and Emergency, and Women and Infants.

“John’s talents are a welcome complement to our ministry at Mission Hospital, building a solid foundation for success as a destination medical center,” says Tarek.
During his distinguished career, John has successfully led large fundraising teams at Pepperdine University, UCLA, and most recently Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, a member of the Providence St. Joseph Health family. During John’s three years as vice president, development at Saint John’s, the Foundation’s gift revenues grew from $15 million to a high of $30 million.
Prior to John’s successful fundraising career, he served as a pastor to churches in Covina and Santa Monica. John’s long history of community service exemplify his commitment to making a lasting impact, caring for the body, mind and spirit of our patients and families, especially the poor and most vulnerable.
Says John, “South County has already been a second home as my wife’s family lives in Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo. Mission Hospital has cared for our family both in times of medical crisis and routine care. When life is on the line, nothing is more important than having the best care possible, and I am eager to help Mission meet the needs of all who live, work and visit our region.”
