Three City Council seats are open in the General Municipal Election, which takes place November 3. Candidates have until 5:30 p.m. on August 6 to file nomination documents and statements of qualification for office. Candidate packets are available by appointment. The deadline extends to Wednesday, August 12 if an incumbent is not running for re-election and does not file papers by the August 6 deadline.
To qualify, a candidate must live in Aliso Viejo and be registered to vote. No fee is required to run for City Council; however, candidates can submit a "Candidate’s Statement" for the voter information pamphlet with a $600 deposit. Additional printing costs may apply.
