Tax Avoiders in Your Neighborhood
California's delinquent taxpayer lists show millions owed by local businesses, individuals and a celebrity or two.

Pamela Anderson's tax debt, like her breasts, is much bigger than it used to be.
When the former Baywatch star popped up on California's top 250 delinquent taxpayers list a year ago, she owed the state $493,000. "All of my tax obligations will be resolved in the very near future," she promised at the time. "Certain events occurred outside of my control which caused this temporary but embarrassing situation."
Alas, on this year's scofflaw report, Anderson's unpaid tax bill has ballooned to $608,000. Her attorney Robert T. Leonard said via email, "We are in the process of resolving this matter and expect that all tax liabilities will be satisfied in the very near future."Â

Anderson has plenty of company. Over the past year, Californians skipped out on $6.5 billion in state personal and corporate income taxes, a sum that would make a huge dent in the state deficit. Another $1.4 billion was owed by retailers who typically failed to pass along sales taxes paid by their customers.Â
In case you want to thank these deadbeats personally, here's the latest honor roll of income and sales-tax outlaws in your city, according to lists compiled by the state Franchise Tax Board and Board of Equalization:
