On Thursday June 6th several Baldwin Park Police officers will be running in the Special Olympics Torch Run, as part of a wide effort to help raise awareness of the upcoming Special Olympics Summer Games.  Â
Baldwin Park officers are due to receive the torch at Puente and Pacific at about 8:55 a.m. said Lt. David Reynoso, spokesperson of the BPPD.Â
Then they will run West on Pacific to West Ramona where they will hand off the torch to El Monte Police Personnel close to the intersection of Ramona Blvd. and I-605 freeway.Â
More than 2,000 law enforcement officers from throughout Southern California work a whole "new beat" with Special Olympics Southern California.
Local officers go above and beyond the call of duty year-round with their participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is Special Olympics largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.
SOSC's Torch Run is one of the leading programs in the world having raised nearly $1.2 million in 2012 with participants from more than 125 law enforcement agencies.
