Baldwin Park Releases Draft 2013-2014 Budget, $3.6 Million Deficit Projected

The city has posted its 2013-14 budget estimate online for easy viewing.

The document shows the city is projecting to run a general fund deficit of just over $3.6 million for the year, bringing the city's reserve funds down below $1 million.

Including all the city's capital funds and special funds (which can only be used on specific categories of spending) the city is projected to run a deficit of almost $7.8 million.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune noted in a recent story that the city has yet to pass its budget, practice usually done by June each year.  The delay, the paper notes, is about the ongoing discussions the city has had for more than a year about disbanding the Baldwin Park Police Department and contracting with the County Sheriff's Department.
