Baldwin Park Students to Receive Free Prom Dresses

Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park will be distributing prom dresses, shoes, and accessories from items donated by employees and physicians.

Throughout the month of March, Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park has been hosting a Prom Dress Collection Drive to benefit local high school students from the Baldwin Park Unified School District and El Monte Union High School District so they can attend their prom and make it a memorable event.

Junior and senior students will have the opportunity to select a prom dress, shoes, and accessories from items donated by employees and physicians at the Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center and surrounding medical offices. Nearly 50 students are expected to participate.

"The Baldwin Park Unified School District truly values our partnership with Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park. The prom dress give away is just one of the many programs that Kaiser Permanente promotes and sponsors that support our students and community," says Christine Dennis, assistant superintendent, Student Achievement, Baldwin Park Unified School District.

“This is our first time participating in this activity,” says Monica Reyes, accounting clerk for Activities Department, South El Monte High School. “It is such a good idea as many of the girls want to attend their prom but financially, they can’t afford it. They are struggling just to purchase tickets, in addition to needing a dress, accessories, and shoes. It all adds up, so this helps a lot.”

Additionally, students from the Professional Institute of Beauty in El Monte and Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education Cosmetology will provide complimentary hair, make-up, pedicure and manicure services for the high school students.

“It can be challenging for a student and their family to handle the costs involved in attending a prom, especially due to the current economy,” says Maggie Pierce, executive director, Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center. “We are delighted to once again partner with our local high schools to make this a special time in the lives of these young ladies. We received many beautiful gowns with matching accessories that we hope they will enjoy.”

The distribution will be this Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education, 4640 Maine Avenue, Baldwin Park, CA 91706.
