Coroner IDs Teen Fatally Struck By Metrolink Train
The El Monte young man was distracted, wearing headphones and was unaware he was in danger, authorities have said.

EL MONTE, CA — Authorities released the identity of a 19-year-old pedestrian struck and killed in El Monte by a Metrolink train, Thursday. Police say the victim was wearing headphones and unaware he was in imminent danger.
Mauricio Moreno of El Monte died at the scene at about 10 a.m. Thursday between the Baldwin Park and El Monte stations, according to the coroner's office and the El Monte Police Department.
Moreno was hit by the San Bernardino Line Train 319 bound for Los Angeles from San Bernardino, according to Metrolink, which reported that the tracks were closed between Baldwin Park and El Monte.

The track closure also caused San Bernardino Line Train 321 to Los Angeles to be held at Baldwin Park and San Bernardino Line Train 306 to downtown San Bernardino to be held at El Monte, according to Metrolink.
"An investigation determined that the victim had walked past the lowered and functioning railroad crossing arms and lights," El Monte police Sgt. Richard Luna said. "The victim was wearing headphones and did not appear to hear or see the approaching train. The train (operator) did activate its safety horn."
