Disabled Driver Frustrated with Lack of Accessible Parking Spaces in Baldwin Park
A quadriplegic driver filed a claim for damages against the city, which in some cases could precede a civil lawsuit.
The City of Baldwin Park is set to reject a civil claim for damages filed by the Center for Disability Access, a law firm in San Diego who represents a quadriplegic driver frustrated with the lack of accesible parking in the city.
Official claims against a public institution could precede a civil suit in most cases.
According to the official claim for damages, Ricardo Murillo, a quadriplegic Baldwin Park resident "has been deterred numerous times from parking" in the 14000 Block of Ramona Blvd. right next to King Taco Restaurant.

"City has a duty for nearly twenty years under federal and state law to make its facilities accesible," stated the complaint document. "There are no legally-compliant designated accesible parking."
Patch attempted to contact the City's Human Resources Department, which is in charge of processing the claims, for a statement and details, but did not get an answer.

There are at least 3 spots with the International Symbol of Accessibility painted on the floor of the public parking lot owned by the city along Ramona Blvd. and between Maine Avenue and Baldwin Park Blvd.
