EL MONTE, CA — A dramatic single-car collision in Pomona left an El Monte teenage boy dead, and three others injured, authorities say.
The motorist who died at the scene was identified as Daniel Paez, 18, CHP reported. The crash occurred shortly before 3:45 a.m. Monday on the White Avenue off-ramp from the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway, they said.
Paez was behind the wheel of a 2004 Ford Expedition SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed as it exited the freeway, went onto the right shoulder on a curve and hit a light pole, CHP reported. The Ford then struck a chain-link fence and overturned several times before coming to rest on White Avenue.
