Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Outreach Program will host its 19th Annual Mother and Daughter Learning Together Conference. This year’s event will spotlight the importance of mother-daughter communication in an effort to prevent dating violence and bullying and the importance of healthy eating and active living. Conference workshops will include presentations by Joan Pleta, Pediatric Nurse, Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center, Rosanna Cacace and Sandra Abarca of Planned Parenthood and Ana Interiano, Assistant Director, San Gabriel Valley YWCA WINGS Domestic Violence Program.
According to the CDC, adolescents and adults are often unaware that teens experience dating violence. In a 2011 nationwide survey, 9.4 percent of high school students report being hit, slapped, or physically hurt on purpose by their boyfriend or girlfriend in the 12 months prior to the survey.
Surveys indicate that as many as half of all children are bullied at some time during their school years, and at least 10% are bullied on a regular basis.
