Former Baldwin Park Wrestling Coach Sentenced in Sex-Related Case

Herbert Daniel Ortizmonroy, 30, from Baldwin Park, pleaded no contest May 13 to one count each of oral copulation of a person under 16 involving one boy and lewd act on a child involving the other boy.

A former Rosemead High School assistant wrestling coach who pleaded no contest to sex-related charges involving two boys was sentenced this week to nearly four years in state prison.

Herbert Daniel Ortizmonroy, 30, from Baldwin Park, pleaded no contest May 13 to one count each of oral copulation of a person under 16 involving one boy and lewd act on a child involving the other boy, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Ortizmonroy, who was handed a 44-month sentence, was turned over to Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives last November after a flight from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Ortizmonroy, who had also run a children's wrestling program in Rosemead, came to the attention of Mexican immigration authorities after walking into a U.S. consulate in Mexico in an attempt to obtain a visa to travel to Guatemala. A routine check determined that he was wanted by sheriff's detectives.

The allegations came to light after one of the victims ran across Ortizmonroy's Facebook account and made a video incorporating some of the Facebook material, and the other victim saw the music montage on YouTube, according to the District Attorney's Office.
